Small firms prepare to pitch for public sector contracts at Meet the Buyer event

Luton Borough Council, Central Bedfordshire Council and the NHS are looking to do business with local firms in a range of areas like construction, social care and human resources.

They will be represented at a Meet The Buyer event, being held at the Knowledge Hub, Putteridge Bury, Luton, on January 28.

Pre-selected businesses will be invited to give three 10-minute pitches face to face with the buyers.

Businesses must register their interest before January 6. They will then be paired up with potential buyers, increasing their chances of winning business even more.

Meet The Buyer organiser Damian Cummins said: “We are delighted to have so many buyers on board for this event. It shows that councils and the NHS are committed to spending their resources in a way that also helps the local private sector.

“I would urge all business to sign up as soon as possible for this event. There is nothing to lose as there will be no charge if they aren’t chosen to make a pitch. If they are chosen, then the costs are minimal but the opportunities are great.”

The event has the support of both Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Previous Meet The Buyer attendee Kathy Birch, of The Mansion House, in Bedfordshire, said: "As a business getting in front of the purchasers and decision makers is an extremely difficult task. Having the opportunity to meet such suppliers at Meet the Buyer gave me the opportunity to talk in depth about my product and the services we offer.

“Sometimes businesses miss opportunities and as a potential supplier a lot of information can be gathered from a five minute conversation!"
