Mayor calls on business to back MK Dons Sport and Education Trust

Leading businesspeople were at stadiummk for the launch of a new scheme designed to ensure the work of the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust continues.

The SET works with more than 50,000 people every year in the fields of education, health, sports participation and social inclusion.

It is also the chosen charity of Milton Keynes Mayor Cllr Catriona Morris, who officially launched the Friends of the Trust campaign as part of her support for the SET.

MK Dons SET chief executive John Cove (pictured) said that there was much to do to maintain the charity’s contribution.

He added: “The funding cycle for some of our work has come to a natural conclusion and we are determined to continue seeking to support those areas affected. The key to this is to achieve a sustainable manner going forward, in particular, our work with disability football and our girls’ and women’s teams. The Friends of the Trust is key to this aim.”

Around 15 businesses pledged their support for the campaign on the night. Cllr Morris said: “This evening was a really simple way for businesses and individuals to show their support for this important charity.”

Mr Cove and MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman also reflected on the SET’s achievements when they presented its annual report at the event.

Mr Winkelman said: “The Friends of the Trust initiative will help plug funding gaps but, even more importantly, will develop a long-term relationship with the SET and the club.”
