Hospital announces changes ahead of major improvement work

Patients and visitors will no longer be able to access the hospital through this route. While a new main reception is built, a temporary reception will be located at the treatment centre near outpatients and the multi-storey car park.

This will be open from July 1.

Chief executive Joe Harrison said: “We know that the building works taking place at the hospital will cause some disruption for our patients and their visitors but we are working hard to keep this to minimum.

“We also believe that the disruption is a small price to pay for the number of significant improvements this work will bring to the hospital, most importantly towards getting a bigger A&E department.”

The work is the first of a series of improvements being made to the hospital, including a refurbished restaurant and shop, new main reception, extension of A&E services and an academic building for teaching medical students.

While the work is carried out:
  • For access to MRI/imaging/X-Ray, wards 1-6/8-10, and the maternity and labour department, patients and visitors should use the multi-storey car park when they come to the hospital.
  • For A&E, Maple Unit, AECU (Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit) and Milton Mouse there will be no change and visitors should park at the front of the hospital as before.
  • For departments such as cardiology, renal unit and Macmillan and oncology units, there will be no change and visitors should follow signs to cardiology for parking.
