Forum focuses on growth targets

More 50 people attended the inaugural Developers’ Forum at the town’s Grove Theatre, organised by the Luton Gateway, the company established to drive forward economic regeneration across the Luton and Central Bedfordshire southern area.

Members of the forum met to address the target, within the identified Milton Keynes South Midlands growth area, for Luton and Central Bedfordshire southern area to deliver an additional 26,000 homes and 23,000 jobs by 2021.

The forum, which included representatives from local businesses, private developers and local authorities, showed a clear determination to achieve the target and to bring major benefits to the local and regional economy.

They discussed issues including the current economic climate, potential funding opportunities and the challenges ahead.

Luton gateway executive director John Newton (pictured) said:   “We are working in challenging times but the opportunities and potential are there for us to make a great impact. By working together, we can deliver growth and regeneration that is infrastructure and jobs led and which fully embraces the principles of sustainable communities.”
