Chamber welcomes extra £3m earmarked for superfast broadband

The news has been welcomed by Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce, which has been campaigning for improved broadband services as a key part of boosting business growth.

Chief executive Paul Griffiths pictured said: “One of the most crucial factors in determining a business’ success is access to the internet.

“This will go some way to ensuring that 95% of homes and businesses in Milton Keynes has superfast broadband services by the middle of 2017. It will be a significant boost for firms and potentially improve the way they operate.”

The nationwide rollout is a key part of the government’s long-term economic plan to secure Britain’s future by providing better access to superfast broadband, and in allocating funding the government has worked to ensure as many families and businesses as possible benefit.

This funding is in addition to the £1.2bn already invested by central and local Government and will ensure 95% of UK homes and businesses have access to superfast broadband by 2017.

Locally, £3.18 million has been earmarked for broadband improvement.

Mr Griffiths said: “Companies will literally profit from opportunities presented from faster download speeds and new technologies.

“As one of the main business support agencies in the area, Milton Keynes Chamber is committed to backing initiatives which help create an environment where companies can grow and prosper.”
