The South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership has begun work to create new employment by supporting start-up businesses, helping growing businesses to expand further and bring in new businesses to the area.
It will lobby central government on strategic issues such as transport and infrastructure.
The newly-appointed directors are:
- Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Holdings, responsible for the management of Silverstone motor racing circuit and the estate;
- Tom Wells, chairman of Bedford-based brewery and pub company Wells & Young’s;
- Cheryl Smart MBE, chief executive of Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce;
- Walter Greaves (pictured), retired former chairman of Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation trust;
- John Corrigan, chairman of Brackmills Business Improvement District in Northampton and head of facilities management at Northampton-based iPSL.
They will work alongside representatives from local authorities, education and the voluntary sector.
SEMLEP chair Dr Ann Limb said: “These private sector appointments represent a wide range of experience, business size, sector and geographic distribution across the SEMLEP area and will complement a board already distinguished by the calibre and commitment of its public sector directors.
“All the directors and I will work with businesses, communities and citizens throughout the region to establish SEMLEP as one of the most industrious, inclusive, innovative local enterprise partnerships in the country.”
