Pat & Dec Ltd, at the time based in Stony Stratford and its director David Seller, of Wootton in Northamptonshire, pleaded guilty to two offences of breaching their duty of care with regard to waste and failing to produce their Waste Carriers Registration.
Police officers stopped Seller at the wheel of his Tipper van at a layby on Hanslope Road, Haversham. The van was full of garden waste and the officers followed muddy tyre tracks into a farmers field and found similar waste dumped in a hedgerow.
The matter was passed to the Environmental Crime Unit of Milton Keynes Council to investigate.
Council officers tracked down Seller and Pat & Dec Ltd, which had both moved away from the area, and requested their Waste Transfer Notes covering the date that they were stopped and their Waste Carriers Registration.
They failed to provide them and Milton Keynes Council issued them with Fixed Penalty Notices for these offences.
Neither Seller or Pat & Dec Ltd co-operated with the council therefore they were reported for summons.
Milton Keynes magistrates fined each £1,000 and ordered them to pay the council’s costs of £1,558.
Environmental crime unit team leader Pete Roberts said: “Businesses and householders have a duty of care to ensure that their waste is disposed of correctly and not dumped illegally. We will pursue those who dump waste in our borough, even if they move away.”
