Mayor James Lancaster cuts the ribbon to officially open Sora Lounge, the new shisha bar in Bletchley
The Mayor of Milton Keynes has praised the city’s business community, cultural sector and residents for their role in shaping a “vibrant, resilient and forward-looking economy”.
Reflecting on his term so far, the Mayor said one of his priorities has been to strengthen connections between local businesses, community groups and residents.
“Milton Keynes thrives on collaboration,” he said. “I have seen first-hand how our businesses and entrepreneurs contribute to growth, innovation and opportunity in the city.”
The Mayor has attended a range of business networking events, including the Meet of MK sessions hosted by local radio station MKFM, where entrepreneurs and employers share ideas and showcase their services.
“These events highlight the talent and ambition driving our local economy,” he said. “They also show how business leaders are investing in Milton Keynes, helping to sustain a strong and dynamic marketplace.”
Alongside his engagement with businesses, the Mayor has also celebrated the success of community and cultural events, from the MK Prep School’s 50th anniversary to the MK Inspiration Awards. “Our cultural sector is thriving,” he said. “Events and exhibitions attract visitors from across the region, boosting both our economy and civic pride.”
Looking ahead, the Mayor pledged to continue supporting Milton Keynes’ business community and promoting the city as a hub of innovation and enterprise. “The remainder of my term will be focused on showcasing Milton Keynes as a city of opportunity, culture and growth,” he said.
The Mayor is also preparing for his next fundraising challenge in aid of his chosen charity, Camphill MK. On Saturday 13 September, he will abseil 400ft to raise money for the organisation, which supports adults with learning disabilities and autism.
