Milton Keynes energy data firm IMSERV targets UK growth with Scottish acquisition

Milton Keynes-based IMSERV has agreed a deal to acquire SP Dataserve, a move that will expand IMSERV’s presence in Scotland and strengthen its position in the UK metering and energy data market. The acquisition places IMSERV, headquartered in Milton Keynes, at the centre of a growing push to scale energy data capabilities across the country.

The deal adds a well-established business to IMSERV’s portfolio. SP Dataserve, previously part of ScottishPower, has built a reputation for delivering metering and energy data services to suppliers and large commercial customers. Now, its expertise will sit within a Milton Keynes-led operation with ambitions to grow its national reach.

For IMSERV, the strategic value lies in both geography and capability. The business will gain a stronger foothold in Scotland and the north of the UK, while also expanding its technical services and Meter Asset Provider (MAP) capabilities. As a result, the Milton Keynes firm is better positioned to support increasingly complex energy data demands.

Jo Cox, chief executive at IMSERV, framed the move as a pragmatic step rather than a transformation. She said the focus is on strengthening what already works: “This is about building a stronger, broader IMSERV, not changing what already works. SP Dataserve is a business with real expertise and a strong reputation, and that’s exactly why we wanted them to be part of IMSERV.”

Jo added that customers should expect continuity despite the scale of the deal. “For customers, it’s very much business as usual. The same services, the same people and the same focus on accuracy and reliability, just with greater capability behind the scenes,” she said.

Integration will take place in phases over the coming months. Once complete, the business will operate as IMSERV Scotland, retaining its regional expertise while benefiting from the scale of the Milton Keynes parent company. Importantly, IMSERV has confirmed there will be no immediate changes to contracts, services or key contacts.

The acquisition reflects wider shifts in the energy sector, where demand for accurate data, smarter infrastructure and efficient operations continues to rise. Therefore, IMSERV is positioning itself as a more capable partner for suppliers and large organisations navigating that complexity.

Backed by investment firm Bluewater, IMSERV has been steadily building its capabilities. This latest move reinforces Milton Keynes’ role as a base for businesses shaping the future of UK energy infrastructure.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval. However, the agreement signals clear intent from IMSERV to scale its operations and deepen its influence across the UK energy data market.
