Milton Keynes BID (MK BID) has won Gold at the National BID Awards 2026, recognising its work to improve Central MK and strengthen city centre safety.

The BID secured Gold in the Street Scene and Visual Impact category and Silver for Security and Safety. As a result, it has reinforced its reputation as one of the UK’s most proactive Business Improvement Districts.

The Gold award reflects visible changes across Central MK. Lavender planting now lines key routes, supporting biodiversity while adding colour and scent to the city centre. In addition, seasonal floral installations along Midsummer Boulevard have introduced a stronger visual identity throughout the year.

Meanwhile, Operation Bike Lock has targeted cycle theft through direct action. The scheme provides practical deterrents and works closely with partners to reduce incidents. Grafton Park has also been revitalised, creating a cleaner and more welcoming green space for workers, residents and visitors.

Judges praised the BID’s in-house landscaping team and its hands-on delivery model. They highlighted consistent environmental stewardship, which has strengthened civic pride across Milton Keynes.

Alongside public realm improvements, the BID received Silver for Security and Safety. The award recognises a more visible and coordinated approach to protecting businesses.

A proactive security presence now operates daily in Central MK. Furthermore, a BID-led radio network links traders, police and CCTV partners in real time. Consequently, businesses share intelligence quickly and respond to incidents more effectively.

The latest success follows a national SME award in November 2025. Therefore, the 2026 wins mark another milestone in a sustained period of progress for the BID.

For a city known for its modern grid layout, the awards recognise something equally important. City centres thrive when organisations actively manage and improve them. In Milton Keynes, that stewardship is now receiving national recognition.
