Midsummer Place is celebrating 25 years at the heart of Milton Keynes’ retail economy with an anniversary event — and an appeal to uncover the story of a time capsule buried during its construction.
Since opening in 1999, the centre has become a cornerstone of the city’s retail and leisure offer, attracting millions of visitors each year and housing leading high street and international brands. It has played a key role in Milton Keynes’ growth as a regional shopping destination, adapting through changing retail trends and continued investment.

To mark its 25th anniversary, Midsummer Place will host a community celebration on Saturday 27 September. Alongside entertainment, the centre is inviting the public to share memories of its early days — including a time capsule sealed at the time of construction.
Kirsty McGiff, marketing manager at Midsummer Place, said: “Reaching 25 years is a significant milestone, not just for the centre but for Milton Keynes’ retail landscape. Midsummer Place has always been about more than shopping — it’s about being part of the city’s identity. The time capsule story is a unique opportunity to connect past and present.”

Anyone with information about the capsule is invited to email [email protected].
The anniversary event highlights both the centre’s history and its future role in the ongoing regeneration and success of Milton Keynes city centre.
