Sally Alexander, Chief Executive and Group Principal of Milton Keynes College Group, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List for services to Further Education.
The honour recognises more than 30 years of work in education and follows a career that has seen Sally play a leading role in further education and prison education at both local and national level.
Sally joined Milton Keynes College Group in 1999 and has helped oversee its development into one of the UK’s largest college groups. Before becoming Chief Executive, she led the organisation’s prison education provision, building a reputation as a leading figure in the sector and supporting initiatives designed to improve employment and life opportunities for people leaving custody.
Since taking on the role of Chief Executive, Sally has overseen continued growth across the organisation, strengthening partnerships with employers, expanding access to education and skills training, and reinforcing the College Group’s role within the communities it serves.
Under her leadership, Milton Keynes College Group has increased student numbers while maintaining its Good Ofsted rating. Inspectors have also recognised Outstanding provision for adult learners and students with high needs.
The organisation was recently designated a Digital and Technologies Technical Excellence College, recognising its work in developing skills for future industries.
Sally said: “I feel incredibly honoured to receive this recognition.
“It reflects the commitment and dedication of so many colleagues, partners and learners I have had the privilege to work alongside throughout my career.
“I have always believed that Further Education is nothing if it is not at the heart of our communities. It has the power to change lives, create opportunity and bring people together, and I am proud to be part of that every day.”

The award recognises Sally’s contribution to widening access to education and skills, as well as her influence on the future direction of further education across the UK.
