A Milton Keynes ground engineering firm has played a key role in a major City of London development reaching a significant construction milestone.

Mainmark Ground Engineering (UK) Ltd, based in Stacey Bushes, supported early-stage works at 2 Finsbury Avenue, which has now topped out at level 37 on British Land’s Broadgate campus. The 750,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme is one of the largest current commercial developments in the capital, with completion scheduled for 2027.

The project’s progress depended on complex ground engineering carried out before construction could advance. Mainmark was brought in during the early works phase to stabilise challenging ground conditions and enable excavation for the basement structure.

The central London location added further complexity, as the site is surrounded by businesses, infrastructure and high levels of pedestrian activity. As a result, any risk of ground movement had to be carefully controlled. Mainmark’s Milton Keynes-based team delivered a low-impact ground improvement solution, allowing excavation to proceed safely while minimising disruption to neighbouring buildings and keeping the wider construction programme on track.

Lee Henry, Project Manager at Morrisroe, said: “Work on demolition, substructure and superstructure construction processes can be unpredictable, so it is crucial that ground engineers are available when needed. The Mainmark team were a pleasure to work with, stabilising and strengthening the ground efficiently with minimal disruption. Their input gave us confidence to continue work without delays.”

Construction on the dual-tower scheme began in 2023. Once complete, the development will include a 36-storey East Tower, a 21-storey West Tower and a 13-storey podium, delivering around 750,000 sq ft of commercial space in the City of London.

Mainmark Ground Engineering (UK) Ltd, established in 2016, operates as part of the wider Mainmark group and specialises in ground improvement, foundation underpinning and subsidence solutions across multiple sectors. The company continues to apply its expertise to complex construction projects in the UK and internationally.
