Andy Slater, chef patron and co-owner of The Oakley Arms in Harrold, has been named Chef of the Year 2025 at the Milton Keynes Food & Leisure Awards – his second consecutive win.
The annual awards celebrate the best of the region’s hospitality scene, recognising outstanding chefs, restaurants, pubs and producers across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.
At a glittering ceremony held on Sunday 9 November, Andy made history as the first chef ever to win the title two years in a row. This year’s finalists were challenged to deliver a live cook-off, creating a three-course menu for the judging panel.
Judges praised Andy’s creativity and technical ability, highlighting his use of diverse cooking techniques and a touch of theatre in presentation.
His menu showcased local ingredients and innovative combinations:
- Starter: Sea bass ceviche with citrus vinaigrette, radish and pear – sponsored by GCH Fishmongers.
- Main course: Pastures Farm duck breast with a slow-braised duck leg bao bun, a crispy duck skewer topped with quince hot sauce, poached quince and pickled carrots.
- Dessert: Milk ice cream topped with aerated Harrold honey mousse and a hot chocolate espuma.
Reflecting on his win, Andy said: “I’m over the moon to have been named Chef of the Year for a second year. It’s such an honour, especially knowing the level of talent across our region. I was up against some fantastic chefs, which makes this win even more special.”
Since taking over The Oakley Arms in 2021 with his wife and business partner Lizzie Slater, Andy has built a strong reputation for locally sourced ingredients and nose-to-tail cookery. The couple’s commitment to quality and hospitality has earned the restaurant two AA Rosettes and a loyal following for its seasonal menus and welcoming atmosphere.
Andy’s success further cements The Oakley Arms’ position as one of the region’s top dining destinations, attracting food lovers from across Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire and beyond.
