Sweet success… Meet Bedfordshire Chamber’s newest – and youngest – member

Mar 12, 2013

The nine-year-old runs his own online sweet retail business not Before Tea, which sells confectionery aimed at children.

It is his third venture, his previous enterprises having been an online store selling unwanted toys and… selling manure.

Henry, the youngest person to join the Chamber since 1877, is pictured receiving his honorary membership certificate from Bedfordshire Chamber chief executive Cheryl Smart.

He buys sweets wholesale and devises all the sweet combinations sold on his site. He conducts detailed market research among his peers, ensuring he understands his target market.

Selections such as the self-explanatory Not for Boys, Mallow Meadows (marshmallows) and My Little Jar of Mud (featuring jelly worms) have proved a hit, with Henry’s website receiving thousands of hits.

Henry believes his age makes him the ideal person to sell sweets to other children. “No one knows sweets better than children,” he said.

Chamber chief executive Cheryl Smart said: “We are really proud that such a young and successful business person should come from Bedfordshire. Young people like Henry are the business people of the future who will help to build our economy and provide employment.

“It is a real pleasure to make Henry an honorary member of the Chamber and we are really looking forward to keeping up to date with his progress.”
