Santander director talks business with college students

Nov 03, 2014

High financier, business boss, technology wizard or charity worker  are just some of the possibilities open to people considering a career in banking, says a senior director at Santander.

Joaquin Alzamora (pictured), director of strategy and corporate development at the bank whose UK head office is in Milton Keynes, said: “Banking offers so many different career paths. With huge advances in the digital age, now more than ever banks are looking for the young talent to fill these gaps.”

Señor Alzamora was speaking to an audience of Level 3 ATT Accounting students at Milton Keynes College.

He stressed that the reality of the banking world was very different from the stereotypes a career in banking may carry.

Santander is also at the forefront of providing top jobs for high-flying women, he said.

Originally from Spain, Señor Alzamora reflected on his move to the UK after years of working for Santander in a host of job roles. Variety in work is something Santander encourages, he says.

Milton Keynes College principal Dr Julie Mills said: “We pride ourselves on the employability of the people who complete their studies with us and giving them this kind of insight into one of the most important industrial sectors in the British economy is priceless.

“People in industry would love to be able to buy a ticket to hear someone as senior as Señor Alzamora speak so we are really grateful to him for finding the time to talk to our students who learned a great deal.”
