Owners submit £15m improvement plans for Midsummer PlaceOct 07, 2012
The proposals by Legal & General Property aim to add 57,000 sq ft of new retail space designed to bring in more international fashion retailers and create a new restaurant quarter. They would also create a significant number of new jobs, LGP says.
LGP senior asset manager, shopping centres, Helen Snooks said: “Milton Keynes has established itself as a major regional shopping destination and it is important that we support this by continuing to invest in and improve its offering in order to best serve our discerning customers and maintain this position.”
Midsummer Place Shopping Centre already has 430,000 sq ft of retail space and has annual footfall of more than 17 million. Current tenants include Hollister, Apple and Debenhams. Over 1,400 people are currently employed at the Centre.
The plans currently being considered by the council follow a major consultation in April, which LGP says revealed 82% support for the plans from shoppers.
