Neighbours rally to help businesses after Chamber collapse

Mar 01, 2013

Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Thames Valley Chambers are providing the support services to Chamber members across Milton Keynes and North Bucks who have been unable to access vital services such as export documentation since the Chamber folded on Wednesday due to “an historic legacy of debts”.
Northamptonshire Chamber has already dealt with export enquiries from Milton Keynes businesses and is preparing contingency plans with its Bedfordshire and Thames Valley counterparts to operate other Chamber membership services.
A statement from Northamptonshire Chamber said: “Now that the Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber is no longer trading, we do not want its members to feel unsupported and out on their own.
"We still want them to feel that they have that backing and support and access to the services that are vital to allowing their business to function, particularly when it comes to making sure that their shipping/exporting processes continue to run smoothly.
“We understand that any delays in the obtaining of essential, export documentation can have a massive knock on effect and we would like to minimise any disruption where possible.”
Northamptonshire Chamber is offering to process documents for all Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber members at a member’s rate with immediate effect.
It is British Chambers of Commerce-accredited to issue export documentation and is authorised by the Department for Business Innovation & Skills for the issue of European Community Certificates of Origin.
It is also an agent chamber for the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce in the issue of Arab Certificates of Origin and is authorised by HM Revenue & Customs to issue EUR1 and A.TR preference certificates.
The Chamber also issues ATA Carnet documents and offers online processing of export documentation through E Cert and Trade Cert.
The statement added: “We have already had several export enquiries from members of Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber and are working with them to help where we can. We are also looking at contingency plans to see if we can help with other elements of the Chamber membership.”
