MPs host jobs fair to help youth employmentFeb 05, 2013
Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart organised the event as part of their campaign to help the city’s young preople looking for work and apprenticeships.
Employers Home Retail Group, Santander, Railcare, Network Rail, Boeing Defence, Whitbread and Mirus IT Solutions were among the organisations on hand at the fair, held at the Buszy in Central Milton Keynes.
Mr Lancaster, who represents Milton Keynes North, said: “Milton Keynes’ economy is one of the leading lights in the country and while total unemployment is low, youth unemployment is a concern.
"With so many big businesses based in the city, Iain and I are determined to make sure young job seekers know where to look and hope the jobs fair will go some way in helping young people come face to face with potential employers.”
Mr Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South, said: “It is welcome that unemployment figures are falling and that MK is set to see the fastest economic growth in the country but we must not be complacent. We must ensure that young people in the city not only have jobs but also have the relevant skills to meet the requirements of businesses relocating to the city.”
The job fair was organised in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Milton Keynes College, Connexions and Milton Keynes Council.
