UCMK Dean Dr Keith Straughan said: “To have a visit from David Lammy only six weeks after our official opening by Secretary of State Hazel Blears shows how important the government feels that UCMK is to the growth and prosperity of Milton Keynes.
"It highlights the significance of the role UCMK has to play in the continued development of the city.”
Mr Lammy is responsible for ensuring that the UK sustains and develops world-class higher education and took a keen interest in the progress being made at UCMK in managing the progression of local talent from further to higher education and beyond.
Mr Badcock and Dr Straughan outlined how the new centre’s main aim was to deliver the workforce of the future to sustain a successful local economy.
Mr Lammy said: “I feel that UCMK can be one of the select places where further education and higher education come together. It is ideally equipped to play a key role in widening participation and developing the skills the city needs.”
