Housebuilder backs safety campaign for schoolchildren

Nov 15, 2013

The builder, which is constructing the Parklands development off Station Road in the town, made the donation as part of the Walk to School month campaign in October.

The campaign encourages children and parents to make walking to school part of their daily routine, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and minimising car journeys.

“Nowadays there is a real concern about the amount of time children spend outside being active and walking to school is an ideal way to help them get more exercise,” says Taylor Wimpey’s regional sales and marketing director Steve Rolt “but it is important that they can be seen clearly by motorists.

“We hope our high-visibility slap bands will help keep the children safe during the darker winter months and encourage them to walk to school more regularly.

"More children walking will also help minimise the number of cars on the road at the beginning and end of the school day.”

He added: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our high-quality new homes, and this donation is an excellent example of the way we can help schools and other local organisations.”
