Handbag entrepreneur celebrates awards

Feb 29, 2012

Charlotte Jamme is the founder and managing director of Mia Tui bags, which are aimed at busy mums on the go who want something practical that still looks good.

Online parenting review website BizzieBaby gave Mia Tui’s largest shopper style bag, the Amelie, a Gold award. The smallest in the range, the Grace, won Silver while the medium-sized Ava received a bronze award.

BizzieBaby is one of the most comprehensive review websites in the parenting sector, covering products from pregnancy to retirement. It has more than 5,800 registered members ranging from expectant mothers to grandparents who regularly test products ranging from home safety items to cosmetics to toddler necessities.

Charlotte (pictured) designed her range of bags while living in Vietnam after struggling to find a handbag that suited her busy lifestyle. She wanted something that could double up for both work and being a mum but found that most bags were either stylish but impractical, or were aimed at women with babies and were little more than changing bags.

She launched the Mia Tui (meaning ‘my bag’ in Vietnamese) range in October last year when she returned to the UK.

The bags have a multi-pocketed, waterproof interior so that bottles, changing mat, nappies, snacks, toys, mobile phone and other essentials can be stowed safely in separate compartments and are easily accessible. Two clear, removable zipped bags are also built in and each bag comes with a co-ordinating clutch for essentials such as purse and mobile.

Mia Tui has also been shortlisted in the Bounty Made by Mum and Dad Awards 2012. Bounty is the UK’s largest parenting club with over 13 million registered members and one million unique visitors per month.

As a shortlisted company, Mia Tui will now feature on Bounty.com and progress to the next stage of the awards at which the public will vote for their favourite product using a star rating system between 27 February and 16 March.

Charlotte said: “When I came up with my first design for a bag a few years ago while living in Vietnam, I never imagined that I would be selling so many bags, let alone achieving recognition for them from mums and dads across the country.

“It’s been quite a journey getting this far so awards like this are a huge boost and recognition of all the hard work I have put in. It also makes me realise that we are on the right track and that other people think our bags are amazing as I think they are.”

The Mia Tui range of bages is priced from £39.99.
