Firms warm up to help the elderly

Jan 10, 2014

Staff at companies across the country will be raising money on February 7 to help make winter warmer for older people.

And the charity’s Milton Keynes branch is asking people to get involved, to make a donation, organise a fund-raising initiative and ask others to support them.

Its shops throughout the borough are selling fluffy bobbles for a suggested donation of £1.

Jane Palmer (pictured), chief executive of Age UK Milton Keynes, said: “Bobble Day is a great way to have fun, but there is a serious issue at its heart.

"This winter as many as 25,000 older people in the UK could die needlessly because of the cold. That’s around 200 preventable deaths a day.

“February is often one of the coldest months of the year and many older people will be suffering. By getting involved in Bobble Day people in Milton Keynes can help us combat the problems that too many older people face in winter.”

Money raised from Bobble Day 2014 will go towards Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign.
