EU’s speed limiter plan is ‘madness’, warns businessmanSep 07, 2013
According to reports in the national media, the European Commission has asked Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin for his opinion in advance of formal proposals this autumn.
Jack Willis, regional and Luton and South Bedfordshire branch treasurer of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “We are pleased to read that Mr McLoughlin wants to block this ridiculous plan.
“If the speed limits on lorries are extended to vans, minibuses and taxis we would all be creeping around not getting anywhere. We must end this madness taking over policymakers when it comes to speed limits.”
Mr Willis uses his white van as a part of his Leighton Buzzard-based property letting business and knows how important time is. “In any business, time is money,” he said.
“You can guarantee if they make light commercial vehicles fit speed limiters the way they have for HGVs then you can be certain private cars will be next.”
