Dragonboat crews prepare for charity gala on Willen Lake

Jun 19, 2013

They will be among more than 1,000 people crewing the 40ft-long boats, cheered on by thousands of spectators.

The races will take place every ten minutes over a 200-metre race course with the first race at 9.30am and finishing with the final at around 5.15pm.

But eyes will not only be on the water. They will turn to the sky above Milton Keynes for a Battle of Britain fly-past by a Lancaster Bomber and spectators will enjoy the on-land entertainment including a funfair, inflatables, face painters plus mini golf, the high ropes course and miniature train.

Trophies will be presented to the top five crews, the top mixed crew, best dressed crew and the team that raises the most money for festival charity Willen Hospice.

The top fundraisers for Willen Hospice will also receive a £300 voucher towards a prize meal courtesy of The Swan at Salford.

Carol Lester, of Dragonboat Festival organiser Gable Events, said: “It is a testament to the continued popularity of this event that so many teams are taking part again this year.”

Ten companies have also taken up the option of the Gold and Silver sponsorship packages which will not only increase their company profile at the event but also raise an extra £5,750 for Willen Hospice.

The Festival is supported by Heart FM.
