Council looks to set up business travel network for Milton KeynesJan 30, 2013
The three-month feasibility will explore ways to develop a comprehensive, sustainable travel business network for Milton Keynes featuring existing and new initiatives including travel discounts, workshop programmes and shared travel projects.
The study will also look to establish public and private funding streams and will establish support from employers and business intermediaries.
Milton Keynes Council has awarded the feasibility study contract to specialist sustainable transport consultancy Go Travel Solutions , which already works in Milton Keynes with the Arriva mployer Travel Club and with automotive giant Volkswagen.
Senior consultant Cliff Jones said: “Go Travel Solutions has proven ability in delivering business travel networks across the UK. The feasibility study with Milton Keynes Council will enable us to apply this experience and expertise.
“It will help the authority focus on enhancing connectivity and reducing carbon and provide the foundations for employers to gain from reduced travel costs and enhanced business benefits through creating a new business travel network.”
Sustainable travel business networks schemes now operate in Leicester and Stevenage.
The scheme in Leicester – Smarter Travel Leicester – has 36 employer members with 71,000 staff and 4,500 public transport season tickets sold through the scheme since its launch in 2008. They are endorsed by local employers, public bodies and travel service providers.
