Convention is a must for Bedfordshire firms

Sep 01, 2008

The Chamber stages its Business Competitiveness Convention and Exhibition at the Auction House on September 26. It will be an opportunity to hear nationally and locally respected opinion formers speak about the issues affecting business.

Among the speakers will be David Kern, economic adviser to the British Chambers of Commerce. The BCC’s Quarterly Economic Survey earned headlines in the national press this summer after its gloomy findings from the highly influential research into conditions in the nation’s smaller businesses.

Mr Kern will explore the issues behind the headlines and discuss how real the economic downturn is.

Representatives from Luton and Bedford Borough Councils will outline development plans for the county’s two principal towns and RBS/NatWest, will present a great offer for business formulated by the banking group with the BCC.

The Business Competitiveness Convention and Exhibition will also include the Chamber AGM, at which Chamber members will hear a review of the organisation’s performance and its plans for the coming year. The meeting will elect new directors to the Chamber board.

Members will have the opportunity to sell their services to fellow businesses. Members can take an exhibition space for £50 and also have the chance to make a short presentation on their business at the event.

Chamber chief executive Richard Lacy (pictured) said: “This is a superb opportunity for members to energise their business through promotion to a wide range of potential customers. Add to this the chance to listen to speakers who really know about the issues that affect the business community and it is clear that the Business Competitiveness Convention and Exhibition will be a must for all members who care about promoting their business, supporting the local business community and operating within a prosperous and successful economic climate, both locally and nationally.”
