The Careers in Business conference was set up to provide business students with information and advice on the options open to them in the world of work.
Speakers from various industries gave expert advice on their field, including Chamber chief executive, Richard Lacy, who gave an overview of economic conditions in the area, highlighting the growth planned for Bedfordshire and Luton and its potential impact on inward investment and the business community at large.
He was joined at the event by Chamber board member David Eales of the Royal Bank of Scotland who briefed attendees on careers in corporate banking.
Event organiser Ajaz Hussain, careers advisor at the University of Bedfordshire, said: “The event was so successful we found ourselves turning people away. There is obviously demand for this type of event and we will be building on this in the future with the support of local and regional organisations such as the Chamber.”
The conference also included an awards ceremony for Year 2 students in which Mr Lacy presented a Chamber-sponsored prize to business studies student Lily Choudhury for consistently excellent academic performance.
Mr Lacy said: “It was a delight to recognise the achievements of Lily. Our young people are the managers of the future and it is important that we foster their abilities, helping them to become really effective business people.
“We are fortunate to have a university on our doorstep with an excellent track-record for growing and developing tomorrow’s managers.”
