Casino plan wins go-ahead from councilApr 12, 2012
The £10 million scheme at Xscape is expected to create up to 250 new jobs.
Milton Keynes Council’s licensing sub-committee has taken the first step by granting Asp[ers a provisional Statement, which will enable the operator to apply for a large casino licence in the future.
The Aspers plan – one of three considered by the sub-committee – includes gaming tables, electronic gaming, slot machines, poker as well as a restaurant and bar, entertainment area and sports bar.
Councillors decided that Aspers’ bid was the best deal for Milton Keynes, creating a responsibly managed facility and wider community benefits.
Aspers chairman Damian Aspinall said: “We now look forward to turning our dream for Aspers MK into reality over the coming months.”
Milton Keynes was one of eight sites in the UK given the right under the Gambling act 2005 to build a large licence casino. Aspers already runs four casinos in the UK, including one in Northampton.
A council spokesman said: “Aspers have indicated that they are committed to being a key player in the Milton Keynes community and already have plans in place to fulfil this promise.”
