The awards recognise and reward creativity, innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit in the development of technological solutions for products and/or services in the Milton Keynes and SEMLEP region.

Paul Sant, Associate Dean of UCMK, said: "Universities and colleges across the region are hotbeds of great ideas, many of which will have commercial applications.

“Students and academics who have had a technology-based idea with a proven real world application and seen it through to the next stages of development, the Bright Sparc Awards wants your entry.”

Award categories for academia are Most Innovative and Creative Student Project, Best Academic Research Project and Best Academic Led Collaboration.

The awards are open to current students of a registered educational facility within the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership region.

The region covers Aylesbury Vale, Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire, Cherwell District, Corby Borough, Daventry District, Kettering Borough, Luton Borough, Milton Keynes, Northampton Borough and South Northants.

The closing date for entries is May 29.
