Brooklands developer wins top national award

Places for People beat off stiff competition from other housebuilders to land the prize at the Building Awards 2013.

The judges – made up of property industry experts – praised the quality and design of Places for People’s homes and noted that they make a long-term commitment and investment in places from the outset which means that new residents will not be moving onto a building site.

Places for People group director David Shaw said: "These are highly regarded awards in the property industry and to be named by our peers as the nation’s best housebuilder is a credit to all those involved, and something we are extremely proud of.”

The £500 million Brooklands development pictured in the east of Milton Keynes will see 2,500 new homes built over the next ten years, alongside new primary and secondary schools, commercial spaces and extensive parkland.

Wolverton Park is a Grade II former railways works, which has been redeveloped to provide 300 new homes, leisure and commercial facilities. In 2011 it was named one of the top five developments in the world, scooping the Urban Land Institute Global Award for Excellence, at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Mr Shaw said: “Whether we are involved in the regeneration of an existing area or the development of a new community, our focus is on the continued success of the places we create. This long-term commitment and investment is what sets us apart from other developers.

“We are delighted that our approach has been recognised by so many influential people in the industry."
