Boost for commuters as travel network unveils cut-price fares scheme

Smartgo members now have free access to Arriva’s Employer Travel Club scheme with savings of up to 23% on annual tickets.

Smartgo Milton Keynes was developed and is co-ordinated by specialist sustainable travel consultancy Go Travel Solutions with support from Milton Keynes Council and Volkswagen.

It provides local employers and their staff with a range of travel benefits and services to help make commuting and business travel cheaper, easier and more sustainable.

Membership includes travel incentives and discounts, transport expertise and collaboration opportunities with other employers and transport providers. 

Arriva regional marketing manager Linsey Frostick said: "Arriva welcome the Smartgo initiative which provides opportunities to promote bus travel across Milton Keynes.

“We already work very closely with a small number of key employers and look forward to extending that type of relationship with companies across the city.

"Arriva offers great value bus travel and that value is increased for staff of companies that sign up to Smartgo.”

Arriva’s Employer Travel Club scheme has a standard annual membership cost of between £100 and £500 depending on staff numbers.

The 23% saving is based on comparing the standard 4-week season ticket price for the MK Zone for a year (£572) against the price for buying the same ticket through the Employer Travel Club on a monthly direct debit (£440). 

Smartgo Milton Keynes chairman Andrew Bannister said: “The ethos of Smartgo Milton Keynes is to enable local employers and staff to make a modal shift to more cost-effective and sustainable travel options.

"This latest agreement with Arriva will extend the choices available for Smartgo members.”
