Leaders call for technology champion

The Milton Keynes Business Leaders group is also calling for a ‘technology champion’ to promote the cause.

At its meeting in Central Milton Keynes last month, the group called for a focus on information and communication technology.

Milton Keynes Council leader Cllr Isobel McCall (pictured) was the guest speaker at the Business Leaders dinner and answered questions on subjects including the need for a Milton Keynes university; the importance of growth and avoiding a two-speed city; transport; and the retention of a car friendly ethos.

Council chief executive John Best said: “The council appreciates the role business plays in highlighting to the government the needs of the city. The government should recognise that providing the capital cost of the economic infrastructure will not be enough. Successful business needs to be supported by good public services to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”

He called for an urgent meeting between business, the council and senior government ministers to stress the needs of the city.
