Franchise deals total £25.5m

The corporate and commercial team’s advice to City Link courier franchisees has just seen the finalisation of the fourth deal, the return of Bristol and Swindon-based Greenway-Bird Express Limited to the parent company.

City Link, part of Rentokil Initial plc, is one of the UK’s premium high-value express delivery providers specialising in time-critical services.

Shoosmiths associate Siân Sadler led the legal team advising the individual franchisees. Each of the four deals was also supported by the corporate team in Milton Keynes.

Further support was provided by Shoosmiths’ environmental team, led by Nicola Raistrick and Darshan Bhangal – who is part of the pensions team. Good advice on both of these issues was vital to all of the deals.

Siân Sadler said: “The stream of deals started with our client, Speedlink Express Limited, in Milton Keynes and continued with the help of recommendation by franchisees and introductions by Rentokil Initial’s in-house legal counsel, Gareth Brown.

“Having successfully completed the first deal at the beginning of the year, we have been delighted to be able to provide the specialist team needed to advise each of the franchisees and quickly complete the sales on their behalf.”

Each of the franchisees involved has been operating under the City Link banner and providing overnight courier services across the UK.

Tiger Haulage’s chief executive Gerry Zukas, said: “Siân and her team worked really hard for us. Their expertise on pensions and environmental issues turned out to be essential when dealing with Rentokil Initial. We also found their approach to be friendly but determined.””
