Firms struggle to meet ageism laws

While most organisations claim to have introduced or changed their policies and practices to comply with the legislation which came into effect on October 1, almost a quarter still do not have an age discrimination policy and only 54 per cent provide training to managers.

Of the human resources managers who responded to the Recruitment Confidence Index by Cranfield School of Management, 28pc could not confirm that their board or senior management were committed to eliminating age discrimination at work.

Dr Emma Parry, Research Fellow at Cranfield School of Management, said: “These results give particular cause for concern.”
