College receives Action for Business status

The college has attained Action for Business status following a rigorous assessment by inspectors who interviewed more than 50 local companies.

The kite mark of quality recognises how the college worked to help businesses develop their workforce. Milton Keynes is one of only 21 colleges in the South East to reach the standard required to obtain the endorsement from the Learning and Skills Council.

College vice principal, business development, Rob Jones said: “The accreditation is an endorsement of the excellent work the college does with a huge range of employers in Milton Keynes.
Businesses are now recognising the high quality of training that they can get from further education colleges.”

Milton Keynes College is the largest local supplier of business training, working with 1,000 local employers. 5,000 employees are enrolled at the college and 2,000 are assessed in the workplace. Action for Business assessors spent three days talking to employers who had used the college’s training expertise.

College principal Rob Badcock received the Action for Business plaque from LSC partnership director Linda Jarvis and Thames valley area director David Ansell at a reception last month at the college. Among the guest list were the Milton Keynes employers whose endorsement had helped to secure the award.

Mr Jones said: “As well as providing an opportunity for the award to be presented, the reception was held as a thank you to local employers who have helped us achieve this accreditation by providing testimonials and making themselves available to the assessors for interview.”
