Project links art and business

Adopt an Artist is a four-week project, run by South Bedfordshire District Council, that will transform the town with free art exhibitions and demonstrations from March.

The council is looking for artists living in or near Leighton Buzzard and Linslade to take part in the scheme by exhibiting or demonstrating their work for free and is seeking local businesses to host the exhibitions.

Cllr David McVicar, the council’s executive member with responsibility for the arts, said: “The scheme is a great way of promoting local business and supporting local artists. By bringing the two industries together we hope to create lasting relationships and improve the amount of exhibition space currently available to our local artists.””

The scheme would also promote and encourage people in the area to visit their local shops and increase their income throughout the four week period, he added.

Anyone interested in participating in the scheme or wishing to join the mailing list for information should call Arts Development Officer, Emma-Jane Jones on 01582 474166 or email emma.jones@southbeds.gov.uk

Applications to participate in the scheme will be available until February 12.
