The Michael R Peters Group, whose store in The Broadway has won a series of awards and its founder Mike Peters remains a major figure in the town.
The dinner took place at The Swan Hotel. In his speech of thanks, Mr Peters (pictured) paid tribute to his wife Mary for her encouragement and support over the years and acknowledged her contribution in the success of the company. He also paid tribute to his 18 staff who have contributed between them more than 245 years’ service.
The company philosophy back in 1966, when the firm was founded, had been one of high-quality customer care. This remains its driving force today, he told guests. The business has grown substantially over the years and Michael R Peters Group was able to compete with the multi-national organisations due to its membership of Euronics, Europe’s largest buying group, made up of independent electrical retailers.
It is also a member the Radio and Electrical Television Retailers Association, of which Mr Peters has been president on two occasions.
He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award three years ago for his services to electrical retailing.
