City bucks the trend as JSA claimant numbers fall

The figure has dropped slightly from 4% of the workforce in May to 3.9% for June. However, the economy remains fragile, with JSA claimants nationally rising by 24,500 – the largest monthly increase for two years.

Samantha Barker, development manager for the Federation of Small Businesses in the Thames Valley, said: “Given the national increase in the JSA figures, the fact that the rate has dropped in Milton Keynes is a step in the right direction.

“That said, the economy is still particularly fragile. It is therefore essential that the government listens long and hard to the needs of small businesses in Milton Keynes so that the right support is provided for local entrepreneurs to expand and grow even further.”
