The move by Siminn reflects the rapid overseas expansion of leading Icelandic companies. The deal will see Aerofone’s headquarters in Manton Lane remain and expand, said chairman Jo Marks (pictured).
The deal, she added, would take Aerofone to the forefront of the information and communication technology industry.
She said: "When I saw how advanced Siminn were in ICT solutions and converged telecoms, and the extensive resource and investment that they planned to bring to the UK, I knew that this would be a superb opportunity and partner for Aerofone.
"As discussions progressed and the extent of Siminn’s presence in the UK unveiled, it was right for the company and its staff to be acquired."
The acquisition of Aerofone provides Siminn with a solid launch into the UK. One of the Icelandic company’s major objectives is to accompany the foreign expansion of its compatriot companies.
It has set up a UK subsidiary, based in London, to provide Icelandic firms with ICT solutions abroad.
Vice president of Siminn Corporate Sævar Freyr Thrainsson said: "Siminn´s UK corporate strategy is to provide ICT solutions to the UK on a technical platform of various business. Aerofone is the perfect partner for Siminn UK to fulfil the strategy."
Aerofone has been voted in the top three for the Best Customer Service in the UK for the past seven years, and has been twice previously voted best Service Provider in the UK. Jo Marks is a former Business Entrepreneur of the Year.
She said: "Part of the agreement for this acquisition, is that the headquarters will remain and expand in Bedford, and provide an exciting future and prosperity for its staff. It is tremendous that Aerofone will share group functions with Siminn who itself employs over 1,900 people."
