Museum seeks business feedback on expansion plans

The vision of the museum’s project team has been unveiled to an audience of business and community leaders as work on the plans gathers pace.

Museum director Bill Griffiths said: “We know it is quite unusual to be so open in showing people these drafts but we are keen for as many people as possible to get involved in helping us make this the best it can be.

“We have an opportunity to create something really amazing, and the more local people support our aims, give us feedback, and tell us what they want to see in their museum, the better we can make it together.”

The main aims of the expansion is to preserve the hands-on approach visitors say they love and involving the museum’s dedicated team of volunteers.

The plans also include new levels of immersion, interactivity, drama, learning and fun in the two new galleries, which will complete the story of Milton Keynes from pre-history times through to the present day.

Milton Keynes Museum’s board has been strengthened with the addition of a number of new trustees. Joe Cribb was Keeper of Coins at the British Museum, while local businessman Paul Collins is also chair fo the Cowper and Newton Museum in Olney.

Debbie Gockelen, director of business, enterprise and employability at Milton Keynes Academy, and former MP, Milton Keynes Mayor and current borough councilor Brian White has also joined the museum board, as will current Mayor Cllr Derek Eastman after the local elections in May.

Mr Griffiths said: “We expect to announce several other appointments to the board in the next few months. As the expansion project progresses we want to bring in even more skills and experience and ensure we have a truly representative board.”
