The majority of the reduction has come in the north of the city – 662 in the Milton Keynes North constituency.
Regionally, employment continues to grow, with an increase of 13,000 in the South East.
Milton Keynes North MP Mark Lancaster (pictured) voiced his delight at the figures, which include a reduction by half in youth unemployment over the past three years.
Mr Lancaster said: “Another encouraging and constructive message for hard-working people living in Milton Keynes. With positive MP initiatives, like the recent Jobs Fair, it proves that the government is focused on giving everyone the opportunity to get back into work and reap the benefits that it brings.”
Fellow Tory MP Iain Stewart, who represents the Milton Keynes South constituency, added: “This is great news for the UK and Milton Keynes. The government’s long-term economic plan is working.
“There are still major challenges to face and it is important we keep working hard and keep the UK moving forward.”
