Council leader Cllr Andrew Geary was joined by Professor Keith Straughan, dean of University Centre Milton Keynes, and representatives from the Open University to promote Milton Keynes and its Smart City credentials to the EU-China Urbanisation Partnership forum in Brussels.
The conference was a platform for city government and business partners from across Europe and China, to discuss ways of working together to create a more sustainable low carbon society.
Cllr Geary, pictured during his address, outlined how Milton Keynes had been the first UK city to introduce door-to-door recycling, the introduction of electric car charging points and its new plans to introduce electric buses in the borough.
He also highlighted the city’s growing links with Chinese universities and how it was developing its Smart City sustainability strategy.
Cllr Geary said: “This was a very significant opportunity to promote Milton Keynes to an international audience. Our reputation as a place of innovation is growing internationally and that can only be good for investment and jobs growth in the city.
“We can also learn from others how to address global challenges such as reducing emissions, safeguarding green space, and managing our finite resources. These are all musts for a modern, successful, healthy lifestyle.”
