The IoD initiative follows the announcement by Business Secretary Vince Cable of the Made by Britain project, launched to highlight the importance of the British manufacturing industry.
Mr Lancaster (pictured), the MP for Milton Keynes North,: “I am delighted that the business secretary is setting out to honour the manufacturing prowess of the UK. Having helped run a firework business, I understand the pressures such businesses are facing.
“Vince Cable has set myself and colleagues the challenge of putting forward examples of manufacturing ingenuity and innovation, and, representing Milton Keynes, I could not be in a better place. I am looking forward to highlighting and celebrating the industries we have here.”
IoD Milton Keynes branch chairman Jonathan Bailey has already started compiling a hit list of Milton Keynes businesses. He said: “This is a long overdue idea. We have a great deal to celebrate in this country and I am sure there is going to be quite a list of enterprises in MK that will fit Vince Cable’s criteria.
“At the moment the criteria of ‘manufacturing’ seems to be quite wide so I do not think we will have any difficulty identifying suitable candidates.”
