Gardens host Midsummer Picnic celebration

The event takes place on June 19 between 4pm and 8pm. The Fred Roche Foundation has worked with city stakeholders Milton Keynes City Centre Management, radio station MKFM, Milton Keynes Council and Milton Keynes Community Foundation to stage the event.

The Fred Roche Gardens serve as a memorial to Fred Roche, a former general manager for Milton Keynes Development Corporation in the 1970s who was responsible for overseeing the development of much of Central Milton Keynes.

The Midsummer Picnic, being held to mark National Picnic Week, will feature food and drink stalls including a hog roast, doughnuts, sandwiches and a Pimms tent. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics and enjoy the local musical talent performing throughout the evening.

Mr Roche’s widow Val, patron of the Fred Roche Foundation, said: “We are delighted to hold the inaugural Midsummer Picnic and look forward to the local community joining us in the Gardens, many of whom will be visiting for the first time.

“We hope they will enjoy the city’s secret haven as much as we do.”
