Council names its new chief executive

David Hill, who is currently chief executive at Ashford Borough Council in Kent, has been selected by a cross-party appointment panel.

The appointment is expected to be confirmed at the next full council meeting on April 14.

Mr Hill (pictured) is expected to take up post in the summer when the council’s current chief executive Kate Page will retire.

Mr Hill said: “I have been a regular visitor to Milton Keynes for many years so I know local people have a lot to be proud of but that there is more the council can do.  I am looking forward to meeting the employees and partners who are so committed to making a difference to the lives of people in Milton Keynes and to working together as the city grows.”

Milton Keynes Council leader Cllr Isobel McCall said: “The appointment panel saw a number of very strong candidates and it was clear David is the right person for this challenging role.

"He has an excellent track record in local authorities and beyond, and we are looking forward to him joining the council as our new chief executive.”

Mr Hill has been chief executive of Ashford Borough Council since 2002.  He was previously director of organisational development at Suffolk County Council, has held senior civil service posts within the Department of Health and Social Security and the Northern Ireland Office and was Secretary to the Royal Commission on the Reform of the House of Lords.
