Waste amnesty produces ‘staggering’ response from businesses

Items ranging from kettles and keyboards to torches and toasters were delivered to the National Bowl during the day, hosted by European Recycling Platform UK and backed by Milton Keynes Chamber of Commerce and the council.

Chamber chief executive Paul Griffiths pictured described the amount of waste recycled as “staggering”.

He added: “We were proud to support this event and encourage businesses in the area to take along any unwanted electrical items for recycling. I hope that, as a business community, we continue to keep up the good work.”

Milton Keynes Council deputy leader Cllr David Hopkins said: "The take-up at this event was terrific and clearly demonstrates that if you can offer this kind of facility – or ‘amnesty’ – making it very easy for people to recycle items such as old computers, they will respond.

"Just looking at the sheer volume of items is food for thought enough  but this is even more significant when you think that these items could have so easily ended up in landfill."
