Vauxhall tops van sales league for 2012

The Luton-based manufacturer sold more than 11,000 vehicles to small businesses, the Society of motor Manufacturers and Traders has reported, and secured market share of 16.1%.

The Vivaro, which is made at the firm’s Luton plant, headed the retail medium van sector for the second year in a row.

Vauxhall’s national commercial vehicle sales manager Richard Collier said: “We are delighted. Despite an increasingly competitive market, Vauxhall continues to provide customers with compelling offers supported by high quality, fuel-efficient vans with low running costs and superb manufacturer support.”

Vauxhall is the UK’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, building more than 50,000 vans in 2012.  Its range was bolstered further last year with the introduction of the new Combo light van.

The company also took the number one spot overall for car registrations in December, with a 13% market share.
