The event was arranged by the Luton and South Beds branch of the Federation of Small Businesses with msupport from the town centre management committee and the I Love Dunstable promotions group.
Luton and South Beds FSB branch chairman Carole Hegley said: "The day was a practical day of enlisting support and loyalty to the town. Free parking is very popular with local shoppers and particularly helpful when there is more shopping to be done at Christmas."
Many retailers displayed the Keep Trade Local poster and some added festive cheer by hanging balloons, gift wrapping or offeringSweets and mince pies to shoppers.
Carole Hegley said: “We hope that other retailers and local businesses will become more involved in further events in 2010, and would like to give a big thank-you on behalf of Dunstable to all those who patronised the town on the Christmas Keep Trade Local Day."
