Taxi firm saves stranded MP

Dr Phyllis Starkey, MP for Milton Keynes South West and the keynote speaker at the Environmental Exhibition organised by Milton Keynes & North Bucks Chamber of Comerce, was snowed in at home. However, one of the exhibitors at the event stepped into the breach to pick her up.

Envirocab offers carbon positive travel using Toyota Prius Hybrid vehicles – which produce less carbon emissions –  and leapt into action to collect the stranded MP so she could give her speech to the assembled delegates.

More than 20 exhibitors braved the atrocious weather to display their products and services to delegates who had managed to travel to the exhibition. The event, staged at Jurys Inn, was organised to raise business awareness of the implications of new legislation, with advice on ways in which they can comply, and maybe more importantly, ways to help them to save money.

Dr Starkey (pictured) spoke on the demanding government targets which have now been set to lower emissions and about the key role that the people and businesses in Milton Keynes can play in helping to meet these targets. Many innovative ideas and solutions have come from Milton Keynes-based companies and sharing technology and inspiration is the key to making a real impact on the environment, she said.

Chamber chief executive Rita Spada said:  “It was great to see so many delegates and businesses battle through the elements to attend the event today. It shows the real pioneering spirit and ‘get up and go’ attitude that Milton Keynes has, as well as the drive that people have to really help the environment in practical ways.”
